Sands of Time - Sout al Beled 
Sands of Time logoWe created the Sands of Time label to make available authentic Egyptian music 
as it was played 50 years ago - before the internet, synthesizers, computers and electric guitars. 
The Arabic name - Sout al Beled  (Voice of the Country) reflects this emphasis on the traditional  
music of Egypt. We are working hard to create liner notes (booklets) that explain the history of 
each musical style and that contain English translations of all the lyrics (which makes for long post 
production).

All good Middle Eastern dancers know that to become a great dancer they must work with a great
drummer. This series is designed to bring Egypt’s best tabla players to belly dancers around the
world. There is no substitute for working with a Master!
Vol 1: The Henkesh Brothers - For 30 years these brothers have reigned supreme as drummers
for Egypt’s superstars. They have accompanied Mona Said, Nelly Fouad, Shoo Shoo Amin, Sahar
Hamdi, Ida Nour, Nadia Fouad and Lucy. They have played for singers Ahmad Adawia, Amr Diab
and Fatma Eid, to name a few, and have participated in Raqia Hassan’s Ahlan wa Sahlan Festival
several years in a row.

This CD contains over 60 minutes of drum solos and has something for all levels and styles of
Middle Eastern Dance:
10 performance solos - each between 3 and 5 minutes long
1 live performance by Khamis Henkesh and the Hanakeesh
1 instructional track with the basic rhythms
6 practice solos for drilling
The CD will also contain a 36 page color booklet with articles about Middle Eastern percussive instruments – including finger
cymbals, the basic rhythms, dancing to a drum solo and shimmy technique.

2 complete Egyptian  style cabaret shows, each just under 30 minutes. Recorded in 2006 
in Cairo and mixed in the United States, these shows have been adapted for the time  
restraints of Western belly dance performances. The pieces will please the  purist however, 
as they were recorded almost exclusively with traditional  instruments. The album contains 
an extensive color booklet with translated  lyrics of the songs and a comparison of Belly 
Dance shows from around the Middle East and the United States.

Beautiful haunting solos and melodies performed by a traditional Arabic music ensemble,
including instrumental versions of Om Khalsoum's Ana Fintizarik and al-Hob Keda and 
Farid al-Atrash's Al-Rabia.  The CD also includes a 36 page booklet about Middle
Eastern musical formats, the instruments and their history,  biographies of Om Kalthoum 
and Farid al-Atrash and translated lyrics to all the songs.

featuring the famous group Awlad Abou al-Gheit. It includes a 32 page color booklet
with a history of the Zar, a description of the ceremony and translations to all the lyrics.
